Yippee Ki Yay

Pick a blogger who deserves recognition.  Give me a reason why.

I'll use the RNG to pick a winner from the nominees and a winner from the nominators.

PWE of cards for each.  Football unless otherwise specified by the nominators.

U.S. or Canada only for both winners.  (Hopefully the nominator has the winning nominee's address, though I have a few.)

Nominators don't have to be bloggers, but nominees do.

Deadline:  48 hours from this posting.

Don't lick the flag pole.

Answering Readers' Questions

Jennifer:  What kind of collector are you?

Elliptical Man:  I'm a star gazer, so I like getting cards of the better players.  I have frankensets for football, basketball, and hockey.  I'm working on team pages for MLB.  Multi-sport athletes and quirky trivia interest me.  I'm not a set builder or a hard-core player collector.

Alicia:  How do you feel about the direction the hobby is going?

Elliptical Man:  Not too enthused.  Too many "high end" cards that aren't worth it, too many designs that ignore the important stuff, too many ho cards.  The breakers and flippers are fucking everybody over.  I appreciate the generosity of bloggers, but all my other card sources have me feeling disappointed lately.

Lais:  Are you a card snob?

Elliptical Man:  Yes and no.  I tend to like a lot of cards that are considered low-end.  But I can be finicky when trading for or buying singles.  Damages, player name hard to read or not on the front, no team logo, ho cards are examples of cards that I usually steer away from.

Abby:  Why don't you collect soccer cards?

Elliptical Man:  I don't follow it enough.  I follow the USMNT in World Cup qualifying and then the Cup itself.  Same with the USWNT.  Very little other than that.  I might follow the Wave since they have you and Alex.  We'll see.

Julianne:  Are you a TTM guy?  An autograph chaser?

Elliptical Man:  Not really.  Auto cards are nice if I get them, but I'm not going out of my way for them.  I don't think I've ever traded for an auto card.  I sent one card out for a TTM auto and it's not looking like I'll get it back.  I didn't really know what to say in my note and I think I came off like an idiot.  So no hard feelings toward the player, who's now retired and works in media.

Mary Louise:  Do you have any dream cards?

Elliptical Man:  Not really.  There are always cards I would target if money wasn't an issue though.  For baseball, I'd go to 1957 (first year of standard size) and pick between Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, and Willie Mays.  I don't know much about basketball cards, but maybe Kareem when he was known as Lew Alcindor, or Doc's RC.  Football - probably the Jim Brown pink Cadillac card or an early Joe Namath.  Hockey would be early career Bobby Orr or Gordie Howe.

Catherine:  Will you be my groupie tonight?

Elliptical Man:  OMG!  This isn't that kind of blog, Cat.

The Clean-Up

-  Volunteered for the Komen More Than Pink Walk.  Other than getting up at 4:30, it wasn't very strenuous.

-  Won the suicide contest on an Eagles fan site.

-  My reading has really taken a hit now that I'm not hanging out at the coffee place.  But I worked my way through Bangkok 8, by John Burdett.  Murder investigation told from the perspective of a Thai cop.  Now I'm reading Wicked - the Wizard of Oz spin-off.

-  I've updated my Want List tabs.

-  No longer reading comments made after the deadline.  It's set at 3 days, so that should be plenty of time.

-  No cards today, but here's this:

Another Blogger Trade

Portrait of an Artist - David Hockney

So I traded a few cards to Jay a while back, and he sent me a large quantity of Giants cards.  I was hoping for some team page help, as my Giants page was oddly weak.  I got 4 cards for the team page plus plenty of bonus content.

He re-posted his offer recently, and I chose the Rangers.  Less slots to fill in the team page, and I sent him a bit less.  But he still sent me a lot, so let's see how I did.

And some Jeff Russells, a few more Will Clarks, a couple Nolan Ryans and Ruben Sierras.  A Cole Hamels, a Tom Henke, and a Julio Franco.  So a good batch.  The Juan Gone is an upgrade over the Juan Gone I had in the team page.  The Al Oliver is a place holder, as his Rangers stint was short but productive.

Small TCDB Trade

The Human Condition - Rene Magritte

Sent two football cards (plus two throw-ins for protection) to Florida and Tim sent me three cards I like more:

-  Legend who had his career diminished by injury.

-  Second best goalie of all-time.

-  Not his rookie card, but I needed a Chipper for my Braves page.

A Couple Blogger Trades

First up, is another Time Travel trade with Matt.  I sent him some cards.  He sent me this pair of  shortstop cards.

The other one was with Jay.  I sent him some cards on his Want List and he sent me a plethora of Giants cards.

A lot of Sandoval, Will Clark, and Brandon Belt.  A few different Joey Bart RCs.  Greg Minton, Atlee Hammaker, and Kevin Mitchell.  Bud Black and Bob Brenly as players.    A couple Berman guys:  John Count of Montefusco and Kirt What Is that Manwaring.  So a good haul.
