Musial's playing first. The card lists him as an OF, but it's a Spanish language card which includes an El Hombre reference. So I made an exception.

Check that positional versatility with Carew (first and second) and Rose (first, second, third, and OF).
I wanted Rickey's speed, but I don't know who he'd replace. Not Williams or Mantle, so I guess it would have to be Trout. The 1980s just isn't a good decade for dream cards. A lot of suckage followed by the junk era.
This would be quite a collection! The only one I have is the Rod Carew.
ReplyDeleteYou're right on about '80s cards. I was just thinking about '80s cards and realized that there aren't any major baseball cards I would want from the entire decade. I'm not enough of a Puckett or Clemens fan to go for their Flee Update XRCs and I already have the Griffey UD RC and Maddux Fleer Update.

Hey Elliptical Man!! I've seen your comments around, but this is my 1st visit to your blog, I will be reading! I am lucky enough to have 6 or 7 of the cards in this post, most pretty beat up though.
ReplyDeleteTo Chris's comment, I think I would like any of the big RC's from the 84 Fleer Update set, Pucket, Clemens and Gooden. 82 Topps Traded Ripken is definitely on my list. But not too many others, I guess. Not that I wouldn't take nice copies of the Mattingly , Gwynn, Ripken, Boggs, Clemens and McGwire RC's that I already have!
The Ripken rookie was really close to making it actually.

I just didn't feel the need for a second 1B with both Rose and Carew able to play first.
I've got a lot of extra '74 stars, but unfortunately, Schmidtty isn't one of them. He can't be that hard to find cheap. Next show, I'll keep an eye out for one. Same with Goose and Rollie really.

ReplyDeleteA number of these should be obtainable, even on a budget, I mean I picked up that Aaron for $5, and the Gibson for $6, and the Carew is overly valuable -- you just need to keep an eye out for those deals!
