There are certain tomes that will always be tainted by the stench of authoritarian conformity, under the false veneer of pre-collegiate academia. I speak of Romeo and Juliet, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, 1984, Animal Farm, Brave New World,

The only required reading I had to do in high school were: Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, Hiroshima, Canterbury Tales, and The Great Gatsby.
ReplyDeleteI still have yet to read To Kill a Mockingbird. i haven't read Alice in Wonderland either.
I knew I hadn't remembered all of them, and The Canterbury Tales is one of the ones I left out. Meh.

I read The Great Gatsby on my own, and wasn't impressed.
I read a lot of Shakespeare in high school. I still really don’t like Shakespeare. His stuff bores me.

Yeah. There are plenty of good, modern plays that get ignored in high school.
