Today is a 55-word story.
Dinner
She’s burned dinner. He takes a couple bites of the charred catastrophe, then gives up. His movements seem ominous as he rises from the table and she braces herself for her punishment.
But the blow doesn’t come. As he opens the freezer and
considers his other options, she realizes that she didn’t marry her father.

ReplyDeleteThis is a good ending. Funny, I had a client this week who left who abusive lout of a husband after 57 yrs of horrible marriage. Unfortunately she married someone like her father.

ReplyDeleteHubby tells of the time his mom just had to take a phone call during dinner. While she was in the other room, his father picked up the pork chop off his plate, banged it on the edge of the table, raised his eyebrows at my hubby and plopped it back on his plate. When she got back from her phone call, they (somehow) finished eating that dinner ...
