Film Friday

Today is World Art Day.  So let's get to it.

La Belle Noiseuse (1991):  Directed by Jacques Rivette.  The model is Emmanuelle Beart. Michel Piccoli portrays the artist. The actual art is by Bernard Dufour. Music by Igor Stravinsky.

Basquiat (1996):  A Warhol protege died from drugs?  (shocked face)

Surviving Picasso (1996):  Because I can't talk art without mentioning Picasso.  The video below shows some of his more famous pieces. The film focuses more on his personal life.

Frida (2002):  A girl gets hit by a bus and becomes one of the more admired artists of the Western world.  With Diego Rivera and Leon Trotsky.

Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus (2006):  I totally watched this for the art of photography and not at all for Nicole Kidman.

  1. I still have to see all of these films and I do want to see Frida for sure. You made me giggle with Basquiat.

    1. La Belle Noiseuse is about 4 hours long. So you might want to split up your viewings.

The best parts of Basquiat are probably the restaurant scene and Bowie as Warhol.

Anthony Hopkins is Picasso in Surviving Picasso.

  2. the only one of those i've seen is frida, and i could not appreciate it at all.

    1. Hmm. Surviving Picasso is probably the most similar to it of the others.

Others I considered but rejected: Pollock, I Shot Andy Warhol, High Art, Factory Girl, and Moulin Rouge.
