A to Z Challenge: N

N is for National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, or NaNo.

The participant attempts to write a 50K-word rough draft of a novel in one 30-day month - November.

1.  My first attempt was in 2008.  I completed the 50K word rough draft, but not until February 2009.  So I lost.

Whatever -  A female agent from an international criminal organization infiltrates Nike, with the goal of stealing the plans for a weaponized shoe. The different plot threads follow the female agent, a male American undercover agent, and a few lesser characters.

2.  In 2009, I vowed vengeance.  I won with a couple hours to spare.

Bormemor Burning -  There is a revolution in the small nation of Bormemor.  There is also an art theft.  There is also an American reporter with a drug addiction.

3.  I returned in 2012 and failed miserably.  Like I ran out of material before 25K.  LOL.

The Murder of D.B. Cooper -   When D.B. Cooper is found dead in his apartment in Alternia, Sam Buca is called in to investigate. Was the undercover agent / pocket jumper killed by Mr. Ian Woon's crime syndicate? Or was the shady D.A. Constance Meridian behind the crime? Finding the answers won't be easy, with sassy assassin Penny Farthing and sadistic drug addict Leonard Cohen Digsby getting in the way. But Alicia Roget, sexy librarian, makes for one heck of a sidekick.

4.  In 2015, I won for the second time.  25K in the last ten days. 12K in the last three days.

When the Smoke Clears -  This started as a story inspired by my favorite barista's smoking habit. It fell apart quickly. LOL.  A stolen Kirchner, drug dealers and kingpins, a drug addicted barista wooed by a smuggler, Moby vs. the Corporation, a corrupt regime, the zany residents of Mary Surratt's boarding house, and so it goes.

Anyway, the drug dealers and kingpins are named after cigarette companies or brands, and the smuggler who woos the barista is named Cy Garrett (after cigarette).

  1. Some of these sound quite fun to read like the DB Cooper story.

    1. I don't know what went wrong with that one. Maybe it was too centralized. Both times I won I had multiple plot threads going and just bounced back and forth between them.

  2. Great job trying it for times, kudos for winning twice!
