Scoring From My Dealer

So I traded a San Diego Gulls team set for this card:
1974-75 Topps #30 Elvin Hayes Front

Then I bought some packs.  Two each of 1981 Donruss and 1987 Donruss and three 1989 Donruss.

1981 Donruss #146 Ferguson Jenkins Front  1981 Donruss #135 Bert Blyleven Front

1981 Donruss #158 Jim Morrison Front  1981 Donruss #169 Rod Carew Front

1981 Donruss #203 Paul Molitor Front  1981 Donruss #468 Reggie Jackson Front

The first five were in one pack and the Reggie was in the other one.

Jim Morrison playing for Chicago.  Merely a coincidence that Ray Manzarek is from Chicago?  Or an homage to a former band-mate?

1987 Donruss #5 Ozzie Smith Front  1987 Donruss #18 Mike Scott Front

1987 Donruss #22 Eric Davis Front  1987 Donruss #98 Jeff Reardon Front

If Marge Schott was my boss, I'd be angry too.

1989 Donruss #19 Vince Coleman Front  1989 Donruss #26 Don Mattingly Front

1989 Donruss #95 Mark McGwire Front

1989 Donruss #561 Craig Biggio Front

Biggio's rookie card.

Scoring From the Neighborhood Dealer

So I crossed another NBA legend off my want list.

1972-73 Topps #75 Jerry West Front

I wanted a photo of him shooting obviously.  But I settled for this un-Logo-like pose.

Then I asked him about his baseball packs, hoping for either cheap junk era or reasonably-priced pre-junk era.  The former wasn't happening.  I bought one pack of 1981 Donruss for $3.  Not sure how I feel about the price, thus only one pack.  It's their first season, which adds a bit of historical umph, but no Diamond Kings.

1981 Donruss #18 Joe Morgan Front   1981 Donruss #473 Jim Palmer Front

1981 Donruss #17 Omar Moreno Front  1981 Donruss #383 Jose Cruz Front

1981 Donruss #416 Dave Lopes Front  1981 Donruss #427 Leon Durham Front

18 cards.  2 keepers.  4 traders.

The 39-year-old stick of gum is now the oldest I've had.

Card Collecting 6: Fairfield Boxes

So I made another trip to Walgreen's and came away with two Fairfield baseball boxes and two Fairfield football boxes.

1989 Topps K-Mart Dream Team #17 George Bell Front

1987 Fleer Award Winners #35 Ryne Sandberg Front   1988 Score #500 Reggie Jackson Front

1988 Score #5 Mark McGwire Front   1988 Score #575 Nolan Ryan Front

The pack in each baseball box was 1988 Score.  There were several of those Fleer Award Winners.  1988 Fleer was well-represented, with the best being Robin Yount and Lou Whitaker.  1988 Donruss and 1991 Donruss.  1981 Topps, but with bad centering and no star talent.

2020 Leaf Draft #100 Brett Favre Front

1991 Pro Set #28 John Hannah Front    1991 Pro Set #21 Roger Craig Front

1991 Fleer #332 Clyde Simmons Front   1986 Topps #269 Ron Jaworski Front

2018 Donruss #114 Deshaun Watson Front   2006 Donruss Elite #73 Randy Moss Front

1995 Pro Line #215 Jim Kelly Front   1990 Fleer #236 Mark Clayton Front

1991 Score #279 Cortez Kennedy Front   1994 Topps #205 Junior Seau Front

2013 Topps #46 Patrick Peterson Front   1981 Topps #423 Pat Thomas Front

The pack in each football box was 2020 Leaf Draft.   Pro Set doesn't have much trade value, but I like their special cards.  A couple big-time Eagles, for the fan in me.  There was a Topps DeSean Jackson as well.  There were several good 2018 Donruss cards, but they're mostly retired players: John Elway, Tony Gonzalez, etc.  I respected Moss's game, but was never a fan. So this baby went straight to my trader / contest prize box.  Pat Thomas was a two-time Pro Bowler.

Thanks for stopping by.
