Big Trade

So I traded with Clay (clay).  I gave up 18 Steelers cards for 7 baseball and 8 football cards.

1984 Topps #44 Jim Morrison Back

1981 Donruss

1984 Topps.  Interesting that he started his MLB career in the late 1970s. Was he doing something else in the early 1970s?  He played for the Pirates.  The Doors got their start at the London Fog, a bar that was popular with sailors, a.k.a. legalized pirates.  He had a good game in Los Angeles. Are we supposed to believe that's a coincidence?  Awkward throwing motion, because he was away from the game for a few albums years perhaps?   White male.

1982 Donruss Diamond Kings

2000 Topps

2004 Upper Deck

2016 Donruss Rated Rookies

2017 Donruss

2018 Panini Prestige

2019 Panini Absolute

2018 Panini Playoff.  It reminded me of Frank Stella's work when I first saw it.  Thinking now I might have been reaching though. Anyway, it's one of those annoying non-rookie cards that say rookie on them.

Trade

So I traded with Aaron (acasebol).  Gave up 2 baseball and 4 football cards for a mix of basketball, football, and hockey.

All three are rookie cards.

Not my favorite James Jett card, but it works as a place holder in my Multi-Sport collection.

Larry Brown for my Super Bowl MVP collection.  Some of you might be too young to remember the Cowboys in the Super Bowl.  :)

A couple of Roys for my hockey collection.  Some say he was almost as good as Hextall.

Card Collecting 26: Custom Set Completed (for now)

I now have at least one card of every Heisman Trophy winner 1968 - 2018.

1976 Topps #300 O.J. Simpson Front   1977 Topps #269 Archie Griffin Front

I didn't originally plan on O.J. being the lead card.  It was 'during my lifetime', then it was 'starting with 1970', then I noticed the gap with Gary Beban not having a card so I went after O.J. and Steve Owens and now have every winner since the gap except Burrow.

Griffin won it twice, so it's 50 winners but 51 years.

1979 Topps #331 Earl Campbell Front   1988 Topps #328 Marcus Allen Front

The Campbell represents one of my more annoying trade experiences.  Allen was a pack pull.

1988 Topps #327 Bo Jackson Front   1989 Score #86 Tim Brown Front

Bo was a pack pull.  Brown was one of the first NFL stars I had followed at the college level.

1994 Stadium Club #371 Charlie Ward Front   1994 Stadium Club #371 Charlie Ward Back

Charlie Ward:  I think I'll go to the NBA without getting a card in an NFL uniform, just to annoy Elliptical Man.

2010 Topps #440 Tim Tebow Front  2014 Topps #429 Johnny Manziel Front

Jekyll and Hyde.

2018 Donruss #317 Lamar Jackson Front

Potential.

Anyway, here's my entire list on TCDB:

Card Collecting 13: Incoming

So I traded with Chris (challgolfman on TCDB) and got this trio:

An Ainge for the multi-sport athlete collection I am NOT building.  Two Super Bowl MVPs for a collection I am building, though don't expect to finish for a long while.

I also received another batch of Free Friday cards from Brian of Highly Subjective and Completely Arbitrary:

2007 Topps #300 Vladimir Guerrero Front   2017 Topps Update - Topps Salute #USS-32 Josh Reddick Front

Vlad the Impaler needs no introduction.  I like me some defense.

1979-80 Topps #58 Bob Lanier Front   1979-80 Topps #5 Dave Cowens Front

Two of the best players in the 1970s.

1990-91 Score American #129 Steve Smith Front   1991-92 Score Canadian English #2 Al MacInnis Front

A guy with a lengthy career and an interesting story.  A 12-time All-Star.

2018 Score #128 DeAndre Hopkins Front   2018 Score #168 Aaron Donald Front

1992 Score #516 Andre Waters Front

A couple current era stars and a fun card of a prominent Eagle.

So yeah - Brian hooked me up nicely.  I sent him some cards but I don't know if he'll want them or not. Maybe he can trade them or use them for a future Free Friday.

Card Collecting 12: Waiting for a Starr to Fall

into my arms, baby, yeah.

So Tim, from Cardpocalypse, suggested a few ideas for blog posts.  One of them is favorite card acquired during quarantine.

Not only did I trade for this gem, but I got it from somebody who lives in Green Bay, Wisconsin.  I have now completed 2 / 3 of the Holy Trinity.

The wait is over, yet the music remains.
