The Bronx vs The World

Let's start with 1920.  It's the first year post-dead ball era.  It's also Babe Ruth's first season with the Yankees.

New York Yankees

Catcher:  Yogi Berra

First Base:  Lou Gehrig

Second Base:  Willie Randolph

Third Base:  Alex Rodriguez

Shortstop:  Derek Jeter

Left Field:  Roy White

Center Field:  Joe DiMaggio

Right Field:  Babe Ruth

Top Three SPs:  Whitey Ford, Red Ruffing, Ron Guidry

Closer:  Mariano Rivera

Key Reserves:  Thurman Munson, Graig Nettles, Mickey Mantle

So I let A-Rod on the team, despite the 'roids issue.  Reggie only played five seasons as a Yankee.  The guy who went home to Marilyn over the guy who strayed out late.  Munson over Bill Dickey.  Randolph and Nettles over Tony Lazzeri.

Everybody Else

Catcher:  Johnny Bench

First Base:  Stan Musial

Second Base:  Rogers Hornsby

Third Base:  Mike Schmidt

Shortstop:  Ernie Banks

Left Field:  Ted Williams

Center Field:  Willie Mays

Right Field:  Hank Aaron

Top Three SPs:  Tom Seaver, Lefty Grove, Greg Maddux

Closer:  Hoyt Wilhelm

Key Reserves:  Ivan Rodriguez, Jackie Robinson, Ken Griffey Jr.

Banks over Ripken.  Ivan Rodriguez over Gary Carter.  Trout hasn't done it long enough.

Obviously, the team with Schmidt wins. :)

  1. Graig Nettles over A-Fraud.

Clearly, Bill Freehan should start over Bench. 🤭

    Good Job. 👍

  2. You could have started with Williams, Mays, and Aaron and the "everyone else" team would have my vote.

  3. I think the Everyone Else team wins this one. CLoser than I might have thought though!
