-  Four more cards for my Topps Through the Years project.  

-  1967 Cardenas:  Five-time All-Star, Gold Glove in 1965.

-  2010 Longoria:  Three-time All-Star, three Gold Gloves.

-  2011 Posey:  Six-time All-Star, Gold Glove in 2016, NL MVP in 2012. 

-  2018 Yelich: Two-time All-Star, Gold Glove in 2014, NL MVP in 2018. 

   

-  Three additions to my Base Stealers collection.  This '72 Topps Aparicio, a Bert Campaneris, and a Joe Morgan.  

-  Two notables that don't really fit a theme: this '79 Topps Bench and a Brooks Robinson.  

   

-  Nine for my 1989 Upper Deck stash.

-  "Yes, Julie, the Cubs are my bitch."

-  Chris Gwynn's brother.  

The Weekly Clean-Up

-  So I've seen a lot of hate for 1986 Donruss baseball in card collecting blogs.  Is it really as lame as people make it out to be?  Let's investigate.

                                          

   

Upper Left:  Brand and year.

Lower Left:  Team logo.

Bottom:  Player's name and position.   

This might seem like basic stuff.  But in the world of card collecting, it isn't.  A name left off here, a position left off there, only Topps has logos now. Oh - and good luck getting the year on the front.  

The photos are sometimes good, sometimes boring.  I won't say buy this set for the photos.  But it's not a set that should be known for bad photos either. 

The bordering is distinct, yet in a subtle way.  I like it, but apparently others don't.  Are these the same people who claim a Topps set with a vanilla ass white border is the best ever?  Probably.  

Let's flip it over.              

Is that - no, it can't be - black print on a white background, so I can actually read it?  

Heck, even the outer light blue is better looking than a lot of colors Topps has used over the years.

-  So now that I need a Maury Wills for my Base Stealers project, he decided to not have cards for several years.

The Weekly Clean-Up

-  So I completed my Football Plus custom set.  It's two binder pages.  Let's look at the highlights.  

     

      

    

   

-  Yeah, I'm not happy with all the Cowboys. But it is what it is. 

-  It's 18 cards, but only 15 players because I needed two each for the baseball guys. 

-  I'm a bit surprised there aren't any football / basketball.  Charlie Ward won the Heisman, but he never played in the NFL.

-  So Jon (A Penny Sleeve for Your Thoughts) mentioned that a friend was building an Upper Deck football set.  I checked and I have a couple of them.  So I told him he could have them if he messaged me his address, but I haven't heard from him.  Maybe he already has them.   

-  I wish there was a decent set of art cards.  Something like this maybe: 200 card base set:  140 paintings, 40 artists, 20 museums.  200 inserts:  100 parallels, 40 refactors, 20 re-imaginings, and 40 hits.  Andy Warhol's portrait of Deb Harry, signed by Deb Harry, should be a popular hit card.  The rainbow parallel of Guernica might be controversial.  Anyway, feel free to make this set happen.  Then send me a free hobby box.
