RIP Max Keller

So yeah.  Director / screenwriter Max Keller passed last night.  Probably best known for Hiver (Winter), a Cold War spy flick set in Switzerland (where he was born) and Durand, about a woman who lives with her novelist husband in the countryside but is having an affair with a man in Paris.  But he directed several other films that were only significant in France.  Then he immigrated to the U.S. and did TV work.  Mostly cop dramas:  Kojak, Streets of San Francisco, Hill Street Blues, etc.  The Miami Vice episode  "Out Where the Buses Don't Run" was his, with the nutso ex-cop and "Brothers in Arms" playing at the end.  He had a drinking problem, so I'm kind of surprised he lasted this long.  Never married, though he lived with Crisitna Raines and Ann Reinking (after she broke up with Bob Fosse).  Not simultaneously.

  1. I feel like I recognize his name... but I think I'm mixing him up with Max Kellerman. Anyways... it's never good to hear that someone has passed away. Rest in peace Mr. Keller.

  2. I'm only familiar with his work in television. The Miami Vice episode is one of the more memorable from the series.
