The Weekly Clean-Up

   

-  So I received some free cards from Jeff at Wax Pack Wonders:

     

-  Four Arenado cards. This one looks better in real life than the TCDB scan. 

-  Three Vizquels, all showing him on the defensive side, which is appropriate for an 11-time Gold Glove winner. 

-  Three Trevors.  The stretch on the front and the high leg on the back.     

-  I have a trade in progress, which should net me a mix of baseball and football. 

-  Waiting on another Cardbarrel order.

So I bought 4 packs of 2007-08 Upper Deck Victory hockey.  Only 6 cards per pack, but one of the less expensive options. 

   

   

   

   

-  My 2nd Brodeur, less than a week after my first.

-  Belfour as a Panther. 

-  Jagr as a Ranger. 

-  Naslund as a Canuck, though that looks like a Whalers uniform to me.

-  A couple Stars On Ice inserts.  Not bad, but kind of boring.  

-  I like this set's base card design, though the photography is a bit mundane.  There is a set I'll be pulling from in the future that has a terrible design (way too many ho cards) but some excellent photography.

-  A while back I mentioned abandoning my baseball frankenset for a new project.  Seems like a good time to announce that my new project is a Topps card from every year since the debut of the current size in 1957.  There are certain parameters, but I'll save them for the set completion post.

    

-  I got 16 of these 1983 Diamond Kings.  So I now have 17. LOL  

   

-  2004 SPx 

-  2012 Topps Archives

-  I now have a card of every pitcher to throw a perfect game in MLB during my lifetime.  All 14 are same team and year as the perfecto.

So I got 7 more packs of 1998-99 Topps hockey.  Only 2 inserts, but a good batch of base cards. 

   

    

   

   

   

   

-  My first Brodeur. 

-  After trading for a Fuhr, I got one in a pack. Different teams though. 

-  Lindros put the Flyers in the discussion for a while, but couldn't close the deal.

-  A couple commies who ruined the Flyers' '97 playoff run.  

-  Scott Gomez rookie card, as a Tri-City American.

   

-  Season's Best Patrick Elias.  Shinier than it looks here.

-  Local Legend Dominik Hasek.  I pulled his base, and it's also a ho card.  Grrr.     

It was another Topps National Baseball Card Day, so he gave me another pack. 

     

-  I also got Blake Snell, Vlad Guerrero Jr., and Juan Soto.  

The Weekly Clean-Up

 

  

-  Still waiting for somebody's address so I can send him his prize from Ten On the Tenth.  And his prize from an earlier contest.    

-  It's occurred to me that I would like ho cards more if there were pocket sheets for ho cards.  A column of 4 ho slots and a column of 3 vertical slots maybe, instead of 3 columns of 3 vertical slots. 

-  I received a prize from the BFG at Johnny's Trading Spot:

   

        

          

-  Ortiz from his pre-Red Sox Twins tenure.  

-  Rizzo during his stint as an old-timey umpire. 

-  Man Ram as an Indian.

-  Your run-of-the-mill Hall of Fame closer.

-  A nifty Piazza checklist card. 

-  A snazzy insert of 2018 NL MVP Christian Yelich.    

-  I picked third, after a B / W 1948 Warren Spahn and a set of 1986 World Series cards.  Had I gotten the WS cards, I would have stolen the Spahn.  I still thought about it, but here we are.

So on Monday I started a new hockey box: 1998-1999 Topps.  Not as nice as 1990-1991 Upper Deck, but a bit cheaper.  I got 7 packs so let's peruse the highlights.

   

   

-  Goalie mask greatness.

-  Star player / wrong team.  (Vancouver.  LOL)

-  Messier's caddie with the Oilers.

-  Cheechoo rookie card, as a Belleville Bull.  

   

-  One thing that seems to be better in this set is the quality of inserts.  All 3 of these are shiny, which doesn't really show up on the screen.   

-  I pulled the Jaromir Jagr and Patrick Roy base cards, but they're both ho cards.  So into the trade box they went.  

    

-  Apparently the 8th was Topps National Baseball Card Day.  So he gave me a pack even though I missed it.  There's another one on the 15th. 

-  Looks like it's a 30-card base set with 5 cards in each pack.  A few autographed inserts, but they're rare.  Serial numbered.  

-  I also got Shohei Ohtani, Matt Chapman, and David Peralta.
