Sparky Lyle: The Yankee Years

Sparky spent seven seasons with the Evil Empire: 1972 - 1978.  He was named to the AL All-Star team in 1973, '76, and '77.  In '77, he won the AL Cy Young Award.

The Yankees won AL East titles and AL pennants in 1976, '77, and '78.  They won the World Series in 1977 and '78.

Lyle co-authored (with Peter Golenbock) The Bronx Zoo, about the 1978 season.

Let's look at some of Sparky's Yankees cards:

  1. His '77 card always makes me think he looks like Donald Sutherland. Give him a perm and he'd be the professor from "Animal House".

    1. It's not as bad as his '76.
But I think his '74 and '78 are better.

  2. He was the 70s lights out, game over guy in the A.L.

  3. The 78T is my favorite of the bunch. The RB card from that set is cool too.
